SOMERSET WOMEN’S COUNTY INDOOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

COMPETITION RULES

 

All competitions to comply with the current Laws of the Sport of Bowls and EIBA rules (including substitutes) except for the following County Rules:

  1. Competitors may only enter from the Club from which they enter the National, County or other indoor competitions.
  2. All competitions are played on a knockout basis with the exception of the double rink league.
  3. Competitions should not be scheduled for play during the days of the EIBA Ltd National Finals or county games whenever possible
  4. If the distance between opposing clubs exceeds 50 miles, the match may be played on a neutral green, time and venue to be arranged by the Challenger
  5. Offering of dates:
    1. The challenger shall offer their opponent the choice of two dates, one weekday evening and one weekend (excluding Bank Holidays). Ties at weekends shall not commence before 9.30 am and ties on weekdays shall commence at a stipulated time between 6pm and 7pm, Other times may be offered if agreed by both players/teams.
    2. Dates for the opening round must be offered at least 14 days before the closing date of that round. Thereafter, dates must be offered within 5 days after the closing date of the previous round.
    3. Competitors not in the first round of the draw may agree to play their first game in advance of the previous round date.
    4. If the challenger does not offer dates within the required time period, the opponent becomes the challenger and shall offer dates as above at their own club.
    5. When dates are offered, the arrangement must be confirmed within 72 hours, verbal agreement should be followed by written confirmation and any arrangements made must be adhered to.
    6. If the opponent has previously arranged to play a National Indoor Championship on one or both of the two dates offered or is on Indoor International duty or on EIBA Ltd business, the Challenger is required to offer alternative dates. If the Opponent is a named player in a National Team Championship match and is offered that same date to play a National Championship the Challenger must offer an alternative date.

     

  6. Green fees to be paid by all players up to and including the semi finals.
  7. Dress up to and including semi finals: greys/club colours.
  8. Winning Captain/Secretary to ring match results through to the Competition Secretary, immediately after the game. Cards, with start/end times/Home/Away, checked and signed by both skips, to be sent to the Competition Secretary within 24 hours.
  9. All questions of dispute shall be referred to the Competition Secretary, whose decision is final.

     

  10. Formats:

    Pairs      4 bowls each player         18 ends or 3hrs 30 minutes excluding trial ends.

    Triples   3 bowls each player         18 ends or 3hrs 30 minutes excluding trial ends.

    Rink       2 bowls each player         18 ends or 3hrs 30 minutes excluding trial ends.

    Trial ends optional. Only two bowls allowed per player for each trial end.

  11. Double Rink Knockout.
    1. Clubs may enter one team
    2. Match consists of one Rink at home, one Rink away, to be played at the same time.
    3. Toss for the Jack for the game to take place at both venues. Extra end must be played on the challengers’ green. Toss for extra end to take place before the game starts (but the choice of taking the mat need not be given until the extra end is to be taken). At a neutral green, the rink to play the extra end is to be nominated, prior to the draw, by the Captain of the challenging Club.
    4. The winner is the club with the highest score across the two rinks.

     

  12. Top Nine Rose Adlam Plate
    1. Clubs may enter one team. The team consists of nine players.
    2. Match consists of one Pair, one Triple and one Rink.
    3. All games must be played on the same day. Three-or-more rink clubs must play all games at the same time. Two-rink clubs must play the Rink in the morning and the Pairs and Triples in the afternoon. One-rink clubs can enter, but must arrange to play their home game on either a neutral or their opponent’s green.
    4. Score on each game:2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw.
    5. To cover the event of a draw, an extra end must be played by a rink nominated before the game starts. The extra end will be played by the chosen rink on completion of their game. If the games are split, the extra end must be played by one of the afternoon rinks.
    6. An umpire (or competent person) must be available. The challenging captain to toss for the jack, rinks and extra end, in the presence of the umpire, and declare which rink will play the extra end (but the choice of taking the mat need not be given until the extra end is to be taken).

     

  13. Double Rink League
    1. Clubs may enter one team
    2. Draw procedure:- Each club will initially be allocated to North and South division of the County. A blind draw will then be made to get an equal number of northern and southern clubs into Section A and Section B.
    3. Clubs in each section will play all the other clubs in that section. Club Fixture Secretaries to arrange date and time for each match. It is suggested the fixtures are spread evenly through the season without being left to the last few weeks. All games must be completed by the first weekend in March.
    4. Match consists of one Rink at home, one Rink away, to be played at the same time.
    5. Toss for the Jack for the game to take place at both venues.
    6. Scoring:- 2 points per rink win and 4 points for overall score win; 1 point per rink draw and 2 points for overall score draw

     

  14. Finals.
    1. Competition Secretary will arrange date, time, umpire and venue.
    2. Rink fees to be paid by the County.
    3. Dress: whites/club colours.
    4. Double Rink Knockout, Top Nine and Double Rink League - Toss for start of game and extra end to take place before the rinks are drawn.
